The capital Stockholm on the east coast is the largest city, followed by Goteborg on the west coast and Malmo! in the south. Sweden has been internationally oriented always, and about 3 percent of its GDP is exported. Sweden has been a member of the European Union since 1995.

The Swedish University of Uppsala oldest traces its history to 1477. Today, there are seven major universities, as well as universities and specialized institutions in over 30 cities in the country. Even if they are publicly funded, universities and colleges develop independently their own curricula, as well as the requirements for the criteria for eligibility and admission. Divided into two terms, and operates the academic year from mid-August at the beginning of June with a two-week break for Christmas

Study & Degree programs
Students may choose between taking individual courses, or following a degree programme. Typically, the length of degree programs range from two years up to five and a half years. The duration and extent of studies is expressed in a point system, where one point is corresponded to one week of full-time studies. Thus, full-time studies for one term constitutes 20 points.
Postgraduate degrees
After having completed a first degree of at least 120 points, graduates can apply for research training. A Doctoral degree (doktorsexamen) is awarded after an additional 160 points, or four years of studies, including an academic thesis of 80 points. In many fields, a Licentiate degree (licentiatexamen) is awarded after 80 points, or two years after the first degree. This degree also requires a thesis. Admission to postgraduate degrees is based upon academic achievement.
Instructions :-Instruction may be both in the form of lectures with several hundred students present, to seminar and small group discussions, where students are expected to contribute actively। In natural sciences, there is generally more time spent in the classroom than in social sciences। The relationship between teachers and students at Swedish universities is considered to be more informal than in most other countries, which encourages classroom discussion, also in lectures.

International students at BTH

BTH has got 3200 full-time students at the moment. More than 900 of them come from outside Sweden, either as exchange students from Europe or USA or as free-movers from other parts of the world. We have students from all five continents and we are proud to have more than 45 nationalities represented here.

BTH offers courses and programmes not only within Technology but also Management, Economy, Health, Planning, Social Science, and Humanities.

There are several ways to become a student at BTH and they are all presented in the navigation bar to the left.

The Swedish education system differentiate the students into following categorize coming across the world for their higher studies in Sweden as listed below.

Exchange students

• Free movers students

Many of the universities across the world have their bi-lateral agreement with the Swedish institutes. This bi-lateral agreement is independent between the two universities.

The student who comes in Sweden for their higher studies under this bi-lateral agreement is considered as ‘Exchange Students’. Most of the students come of their bachelor studies from their home universities to Sweden. Those students visit here only for a six month period but they can extend for one year by taking more courses here in Sweden. The European Union financially supports them for their studies (like living expenses).

The other categories of students are considered to be as ‘Free Movers’ those who belongs to non European countries (like Asia, Africa, Arabic countries, and some others) except those universities who have bi-lateral agreement. Those students are treated as exchange students. Most of the students choose Sweden for their higher studies.

Fees, Timing, and Interviews

Application Fees:-
An application fee is usually required to cover the cost of processing your application. Fees vary from about $15 to $40 and are typically payable in U.S. dollars only. Some colleges will waive this fee for very needy students. A complete application that is ready to be evaluated by the Admission committee contains the following:
A fully completed application form

Teacher recommendations (if required)
Secondary school report (if required)

Transcripts and academic records

Timing can be one of the most difficult problems that international students face when applying to any college. Make sure that you have carefully read all of the information provided by the institution.

You should make a list of all the deadlines for the various steps in the admission process — and for each institution that you are applying to. Make sure to send all correspondence by air mail, and mail them as far before the deadlines as possible. Most schools will send a card acknowledging receipt of your application and will also inform you if any required items are missing from your application package. Interviews A final step in the application process may be an interview with a college representative.

Interviews:-

Sometimes the interviewer is an admission officer or a graduate of the institution who is living in your area. These interviews provide an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about the schools that interest you. They also give the interviewer a chance to get an impression of you and how your abilities, goals, and interests match those of the institution. The interview is generally informal. Be sure to check with each institution to determine its policy regarding interviews and to find out if an interviewer is available in your area. Some U.S. institutions use what are called "third-party" representatives or recruiters to interview prospective students in other countries. When these individuals are not actual members of the staff faculty or alumni of the institution, you must be extremely careful in evaluating the information you receive from them. If this is the case, you should seek additional information about the institution before making a final decision concerning your application.

Canada is an ideal student destination as it holds learning in high regard, and has developed a mature education system. As a percentage of Gross National Product, Canada spends more on education compared to the Organisation for Economic and Co-operation and Development (OECD) average, and is ranked as the highest among G-8 countries.
Canadian students too, consistently rank among the best-in-world on international tests of Reading, Science and Mathematics, as has been established by OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment - a testament to the outstanding quality of Canadian schools. Resultantly, a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate is recognized globally as being equivalent to those from the United States and Commonwealth countries.
Popular Courses
University degrees are offered at three consecutive levels Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral with the possession of a degree from the ascending level generally being a prerequisite for admission to the next.
Many universities also offer Diploma and Certificate programs. Generally speaking, University diplomas and certificates require one or two years of study in a specific field or discipline.
Students at the Baccalaureate or Bachelor's level or the undergraduate level need to have passed the secondary school programme for admission to undergraduate study.
Bachelor's degrees normally require three or four years of full-time study, depending on the province or whether the program is general or specialized. An Honors Baccalaureate Degree usually signifies a higher level of academic achievement. At some universities, it requires an additional year of study.
A Master's degree typically requires two years of study after successful completion of an Honors Baccalaureate.
For a Doctoral programme
one normally needs a Master's degree. In special cases, students have been allowed to enroll directly from an Honors Baccalaureate program into a Doctoral Program. A minimum of three years and up to four or five years of study and research, as well as a dissertation are the normal requirements for a doctorate. The degree is generally known as a PhD; however, doctoral degrees may also be granted in particular fields of study, such as music (DMus) or law (LLD).
In regulated professions, such as medicine, law, education, and social work, an internship is generally required in order to obtain a license to practice.

program in China, offered jointly with Tsinghua University, of Beijing.

"The Chinese believe very strongly that China is unique and therefore they should learn something on China in China," Hellmut Schütte, the dean of the Singapore campus, said in an interview.

"That is understandable," he continued. "American business schools are dominating the field with their way of business thinking, which is all very interesting but is not always applicable back in China's state-owned enterprises. But at the same time, students appreciate they need to learn about global practice. This is why many local schools are now offering joint programs with international business schools. Students can get the best of both worlds."

The program may make life easier for Steve Mullinjer, a recruiter in Shanghai for Heidrick & Struggles, an international executive search firm based in Chicago.

"Foreign-trained executives that can prove they can adapt their learned skill sets to the local market are in rare supply,

MBA-holders with international exposure are increasingly in demand in China, a country that has created plenty of successful, self-taught entrepreneurs, but few with much experience of Western-style best-management practices.

As Chinese companies face increasing international competition in their own backyard, while simultaneously taking on the outside world, the limitations of their senior executives' understanding of Western practices can often weigh them down.

A few years ago, many Chinese executives would have jumped at the opportunity to study abroad, but now they are hesitant to leave, for fear that they will not only lose touch with the country's fast evolving economic realities, but also lose precious business contacts and networks.

The management consulting firm McKinsey estimates that Chinese companies, given the global aspirations that many nurture, will need 75,000 leaders who can work effectively in global environments over the next 10 to 15 years, compared with the 3,000 to 5,000 that they have now.

"When you add on top of that the hiring needs of multinationals doing business in China, you can imagine the vast demand for executive talent in the country," said Jevan Soo, McKinsey's manager of Asia-Pacific recruiting, in Shanghai.

In the short-term, companies are coping through a variety of mechanisms, including continuing to bring both Chinese and non-Chinese expatriates from overseas, and developing local hires from entry-level positions to managerial roles.

"However, the long-term solution will require a shift in the Chinese education system to increasingly emphasize the practical skills and the English language skills that global companies require," Soo said.

Foreign universities have been quick to pick up on the trend, and in the last couple of years joint-executive education programs have flourished.

Insead's intended partner in its executive MBA program, Tsinghua, one of the top Chinese universities, already offers an international MBA program in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. Graduates of the program earn a Tsinghua MBA and a Sloan certificate.

But, Schütte said, the Insead-Tsinghua qualification would be the first dual-degree executive MBA offered by top international and Chinese business schools in China.

Qian Xiaojun, director of the MBA program at Tsinghua, said in an e-mail: "We are waiting for the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education and are planning to start the new EMBA in the fall." The Insead-Tsinghua dual-degree may be the first in China, but is unlikely to be the last. In March, the dean of Columbia Business School will travel to China to meet with educators, executives and government officials and look at opportunities.

Even though Columbia is not yet offering a joint executive MBA it has been increasing its Chinese presence and is about to launch an executive education program in Hong Kong, focused on real estate. This month, the China Europe International Business School, Ceibs, in Shanghai, is starting to offer a new executive education course called the Global CEO program, in conjunction with Harvard Business School and IESE Business School in Spain.

The program, scheduled for one week each month over a four-month period, will rotate between Shanghai, Boston and Barcelona, and has been designed to strengthen the management skills of Chinese chief executives with more than 10 years' experience in senior management.

Such programs do not come cheap, particularly in Chinese earning terms. The Global CEO course at Ceibs costs $43,500, and executive MBA programs in China average upward of $40,000, a fortune by local standards.
Tsinghua program could top $100,000.

But the returns on investment make the programs attractive.

While CEIBS charges $35,000 for its executive MBA program, alumni can expect to be earning double that amount within three years.

For chief executives who make multimillion-dollar decisions, if learning helps them to improve the performance of their companies by a mere 0.1 percent "that will be more than enough to pay their tuition," said Rolf Cremer, the dean and vice-president of Ceibs.

If the rising popularity of MBA courses in China is creating international growth opportunities for business schools around the world, it is also posing challenges for some of them back home.

"We have definitely seen a decreasing number of applications from China within the last couple of years, maybe something like 20 percent," said Hooi Den Huan, the Vice Dean of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Applications from China alone still outnumber the total annual enrollment of 125 students, but Nanyang recognizes that it has to position its programs clearly to stay attractive as Chinese business schools ramp up their quality and reputation, Hooi said.

Nanyang is not alone in facing this challenge.

"Most multinational firms are still hiring in relatively small numbers at Chinese MBA schools as compared to their hiring levels at U.S. and European MBA schools," Soo, of McKinsey, said. "However, it is only a matter of time before Chinese schools close this gap."

Foreign MBA, will travel in Chinese business

MBA in China  (Carleton University)

Master of Business Administration (MBA) in China is designed for qualified individuals working in China who aspire to enhance their respective knowledge of 'ideas and procedures in the business world' and skills in conducting research and improving 'the efficiency and competitiveness of organizations.' MBA in China is structured to enable students to gain a graduate business degree from 'an internationally recognized Canadian business school more quickly and at a greatly reduced cost' with minimal disruption to one's daily life. Carleton University advises students who do not possess 'a business education background to prepare themselves for taking MBA courses by registering in some prerequisite business courses.'A primary goal of the MBA degree is to educate students about advanced ideas and procedures in the business world. To obtain an MBA degree from Sprott School of Business at Carleton University, students need to register and successfully pass eight main MBA courses and submit a research project report, supervised by a Carleton university professor. In addition, the School asks those students who do not have a business education background to prepare themselves for taking MBA courses by registering in some prerequisite business courses. Although each of the MBA courses will be condensed to overcome time limitations and students needs, the content and standards will parallel the MBA courses taught in local programs at Carleton University. MBA courses in the "MBA in China" program will be taught and graded by Carleton University professors. Students who successfully complete all eight courses and fulfill all MBA requirements will be awarded a Carleton University MBA degree.

MBA in China

The Chinese economy continues to boom, an increasing number of university business students, both Chinese and foreign, are opting to seek a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Universities within China to increase their knowledge beyond the bachelor’s degree level.

“For my masters program I was in Beijing first, and then I came to Shanghai for the second half,” said Valerie, an American student completing her MBA in China. Some of the MBA programs in China attract foreign students from many different countries studying not only business, but also Chinese language. These students are eager to study in China, known worldwide as the place to go for growing businesses.

Many job seekers hoping to climb the executive ladder are finding that they are more likely to be hired by multi-national firms, and their skills are more marketable, if they have an MBA listed on their resume.

“There’s a demand for talented and qualified people who can do the business,” said risek, an MBA holder who knows the Shanghai job market well. “They are trying to get MBA programs going that are good quality... It’s a credential that helps get you into upper management quicker and easier.”

Some of these MBA programs have connections to Shanghai, other courses are in Beijing, while still others are completed through online distance learning, with help from high speed internet connections.

With so many programs to choose from, potential MBA students are challenged in trying to find out which university is right for them.

How long is each program? What city are they located in? And very importantly, how much do they cost?

Here is a look at some of the programs out there for those thinking about getting MBA’s in Shanghai, as well as some of the other cities in China.

UK Student Visa
Visa applications have to be made on IM2A forms, which are available free of cost at the British Embassies. This form has to be filled up by the student and submitted to the embassy, along with the Visa application fee and the required documents as mentioned below.
Immigration Rules for Students
You must intend to study at a publicly funded university or college, a bonafide private institution or a fee-paying independent school.
You must be able to and intend to follow a full time degree course, or a weekday, full time course at a single institution involving at least 15 hours of organized, daytime study per week.
You must be able to pay for your course and the living expenses of your husband or wife and children (if they are with you) without working in UK or claiming public funds.
You must not intend to work in UK unless you are accepted for a course lasting longer than six months, when you may work part-time or during vacations.
You must intend to leave UK at the end of your studies.
Documents Required For a Student Visa
A letter of acceptance on the course

This will be a letter from your institution confirming that a place has been offered to you and that the course is full-time as defined by the immigration law. The letter should state how long the course will last. Where your course is more advanced and specialized, the letter should also state what level of English is needed for the course (giving minimum test marks, if appropriate) and confirm that you satisfy this requirement.
Evidence that you can pay the course fees and support yourself and your family, if applicable
Depending on your circumstances, this could include evidence of government sponsorship, a letter from a sponsor in UK confirming they can support you, together with evidence that they can do this, and/or your own bank statements. You should also provide a letter from your place of study stating the full cost of the course, what arrangements are acceptable for payment and whether you have already paid fees or a deposit.
Accommodation
Although the immigration rules do not require unaccompanied students to show that accommodation has been arranged, your place of study may have given you information about its availability, and you should bring this to the attention of the ECO. If your family is coming with you to the UK, you will need to show that there will adequate accommodation for them. If your place of study cannot confirm that family accommodation will be available, you may have to consider travelling to the UK alone and making arrangements for your family to join you when you have found somewhere to live.

The Interview
Interview is a part of your visa application process.
The interview is to give you the opportunity to clarify for the ECO certain parts of your application. The ECO will be aiming to satisfy him or herself that your study plans are genuine and workable.
The interview is a normal part of the process, but you may feel quite nervous before it and find it an uncomfortable experience. ECO’s are trained professionals who will try to make the process as painless as possible, but the questions are necessarily very direct and personal.
You should prepare for such an interview carefully. In particular:
Be familiar with all your study plans.
why you chose the particular institution and course.
how the course will help your future career.
Be clear about the cost of living and the course and your finances:
do you have enough money to complete the course?
Can you prove it?
Be as clear as you can about your likely future career in your country:

what are you going to do on your return ?

Foreign Student Issues

Accommodation
There are various options available for living in UK. Most universities have rooms in their halls of residence where international students can rent a room. But usually if you accept a room in a university, you would be required to sign a binding arrangement to remain in hall for the full academic year. This policy varies with each university.
Alternately, you could also take private accommodation. This could be either with a British family or sharing a flat with other students. Usually universities have an accommodation office, which can help you with this.
Health Care
Britain has a subsidized health service which provides free health care and treatment for people who are resident in Britain. Students who are enrolled on a programme which will last for more than six months are also entitled to NHS treatment. If a doctor prescribes any medicines these are subsidized but there will be a charge made for each prescription – currently 5.75 UK Pounds per item. Dental treatment is subsidized by NHS but everyone has to pay something towards the cost of their treatment.
Post-MBA Jobs & Employment
Any non-EEA national seeking entry or permission to remain in the United Kingdom for the purpose of employment will normally require a work permit. This means you need to find an employer who will sponsor your work permit.
According to the new rules, students who do their MBA in UK are allowed to work in UK for a period of two years.
It is not easy to get jobs in UK after an MBA program, if you are not from a top school. A job is even more difficult for students who do not have any work experience prior to their MBA.
If you are an international student, you should be in top 10% of your class in performance to improve your chances of getting a job.
A number of business schools have a career office that guides students and help them in finding potential employers.
A number of students consider UK MBA program as an entry to Europe. However, this is not practical. It is as tough to get a work permit in any European country after a MBA in UK, as it would have been with a MBA from any other country.
